In 2016, Revel Architecture+Design completed the office design for Autodesk in Denver. Revel Architecture took the time to answer our questions and help us learn more about this office design.
What’s the first thing someone would notice in this office?
A fresh, active space with lots of natural light. When you first walk in you feel as if you’ve just arrived somewhere special.
What does this office say about the company you designed it for?
Autodesk is a forward-thinking organization that puts their staff first, and understands the positive role good design plays in employee satisfaction.
Describe the layout of this office. How does this office design encourage creativity, productivity, and team happiness?
At the beginning of programming and planning, the triangular footprint of the building & floor plate created some unique challenges, but as the design evolved, it became one of the project’s strongest attributes. The 3-sided building provided longer stretches of exterior glazing, allowing all staff to be located along natural daylight, with ample space left over to strategically place meeting rooms and other built elements between work zones. This planning approach yielded numerous pockets of workstations throughout, none larger than 22 – 24, providing each group with their own neighborhood they could call home, rather than being lost in a sea of endless workstations.
What does the space do best?
Not only does it inspire people to explore, and to want to see what’s around the next corner, but a huge effort also went into cutting down noise and unwanted distractions. Every material and element in the space was planned around providing better acoustics, and acoustic isolation. The space provides an abundance of privacy and thoughtfully separates public and social areas from work spaces. Standing in one specific location you would never know that there are 140+ people working on the floor.
What went into choosing the colors and materials for the office’s decor?
The colors and materials were inspired by Colorado’s vibrant natural beauty. Just do an image search for “Colorado Landscapes” and see what we mean! As a deliberate contrast, exposed mechanical equipment, concrete slabs, exposed plywood, and a whole lot of geometry were seamlessly layered in as a reference to Autodesk, THE global leader in software for the architecture and design industry.
What is your favorite part of this office?
The abstract expression of Autodesk’s branding that flows throughout the space. Vibrant colors and geometry weave together, creating an environment solely unique to Autodesk Denver.
