If you’ve ever found yourself constantly clicking the “re-order” button, or going next door to the bodega for another sandwich, it’s time to shake up your routine. Wake up your tastebuds by trying one of these weird dishes that call NYC home.
Ramen Burger
Admittedly the Ramen Burger isn’t a picture of healthy eating, but with a crunchy ramen outside, warm and meaty inside, and an all-around salty and delicious flavor, we feel like you can squeeze it in for a weekend lunch. Get it at Smorgasburg!
Cereal Milk
Everyone knows that the best part of your sugary, guilty-pleasure cereal is drinking the milk after. Enter: Momofuku Milk Bar’s Cereal Milk. We won’t judge if you sneak a bottle of this milkshake-esque substance into your office and call it breakfast – especially if your office is near one of Momofuku Milk Bar’s many locations which include Greenwich Village, The Upper West Side, and Midtown .
The Cronut
We’ve all heard about the infamous cronut, but have you actually tried it? Take the flakey and buttery deliciousness of a croissant, put it in the whimsical circular shape that is a donut, and you get pure magic. If you haven’t been late to work after waiting on line at Dominique Ansel, we’re not sure if you’re a true foodie.
Avocado Toast
Although it seems simple, almost too simple, Avocado toast is actually brilliant because it combines everything you love into one crunchy, fresh, and creamy bite. Cafe Gitane claims to have one of the best avo-toasts in the city, but you could also leave a few avocados and loaf of bread in your office kitchen for an easy DIY version. Breakfast. Lunch. Done.
Lobster Roll
The summer is perfect for sitting on a New England beach with a cocktail in hand, enjoying the nice ocean breeze. Unfortunately for you, you’re in your office but, fortunately for you, eating a lobster roll is a semi-close second best. The lobster roll from the Red Hook Lobster Pound is one worth dishing out a few extra bucks for. Although it may be a little pricey, this delicacy will have you dreaming of the beach all summer long.
Unique Flavored Doughnuts:
Even though the donut is losing popularity compared to the cupcake and the cronut, don’t be mistaken. This breakfast classic still has it going on, especially with new and improved flavors like Tres Leches or Carrot Cake. Grab a few of these delicious treats at Doughnut Plant‘s Chelsea location.
Soft Serve Fruit:
Out with fro-yo and in with soft serve fruit. Chloe’s, in Union Square, serves up a range of all natural flavors including cranberry, mango, pineapple, and even dark chocolate. Every serving is made predominantly from fruit and water, with just a hint of cane sugar, so it is sure to please for the health-conscious members of your team. If Chloe’s doesn’t inspire you to treat your sweet tooth while keeping your body summer ready, we don’t know what will.
Grilled Cheese
Although this may not seem like a “food trend,” per-say, grilled cheese will always remind us of everything good in the world, giving it a deserving spot on this list. Plus, with places like Milk Truck putting a not-your-mom’s spin on the classic, you’ll have a whole new awakening to a dish that will still deliver a bit of comfort.
Asia Dog:
Just like with the Grilled Cheese, there’s something intriguing about creating a twist on an American classic. Asia Dog (which is now featured at Madison Square Eats) uses Asian inspiration and takes toppings such as kimchi and seaweed flakes and puts them on a hot dog. If you’re the type of person who can’t decide what you really want from Seamless (Chinese? Italian? American?), then Asia Dog might be the choice for you.
